Actor Julian Sands ID’d as Hiker Missing in Mt. Baldy Area Transcript

Right now a pair of searches ongoing for two hikers missing in our local mountains. Welcome back, I’m Jovana Lara.

I’m Marc Brown. You’re watching Eyewitness News at Five, live on ABC 7, Hulu and wherever you stream. One of them has been missing since Friday in the Mount Baldy area. The other reported missing Monday. He was in the San Gabriel Mountains.

In both cases, the search efforts have been hampered by bad weather and bad conditions. Eyewitness News reporter Eric Resendiz is live in San Bernardino with more. Eric?

Marc, Jovana, search and rescue crews across Southern California are trying to find two missing hikers. One operation is underway in Los Angeles County and another in San Bernardino County. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department says the hiker they’re looking for is acclaimed to actor Julian Sands. Dangerous winter weather conditions across Southern California mountains as search and rescue crews try to locate missing hikers. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department says they’re looking for a hiker who was reported missing on Friday, January 13th. The hiker has been identified as 65-year old actor Julian Sands.

The missing hiker was identified as Julian Sands, 65 years old of North Hollywood. He is an actor from Hollywood and has been in several movies.

He has the face of an angel.

I’m only a spirit.

Sands appeared in dozens of films and TV shows in the eighties and nineties, including the 1989 film, Warlock.

Spiders have no reproductive organs.

And also in the 1990 film, Arachnophobia. Investigators say Sands’ wife shared this picture with them in hopes of finding him. But as of now, no luck.

His wife did report him missing. From what I understand, he left sometime that day for a hike, and when he did not return, his family reported him missing.

Meanwhile, in LA County, search and rescue crews are in the air looking for another missing hiker in the Crystal Lake area in the San Gabriel Mountains. Investigators identified the missing hiker as Robert Gregory from Hawthorne. Officials now sounding the alarm for hikers to think twice before heading out in these dangerous conditions. This comes after two hikers fell to their death in the past four weeks in Mount Baldy.

The conditions are too dangerous. In fact, even some of the more experienced hikers are getting themselves into trouble up there. So we recommend that people stay away from that area.

And it’s been about five days since actor Julian Sands was reported missing. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department says search and rescue crews on the ground have been removed from the operation due to dangerous and icy weather conditions, but will resume once those conditions improve.
