Cats & Their Humans Fall In Love With 'Stray' Video Game Transcript
Yahoo Finance tech editor Dan Howley details the new video game “Stray,” which allows users to wander the streets as a stray cat. Read the transcript here.
Speaker 1: (00:08) Welcome back the Markets, and quite frankly, the planet are on fire today, but, well, it's Twitter that can't contend with a cat, a virtual cat. In fact, the top trending topic on social media most of the day is a video game called Stray. It is about a, yes, a stray cat. Tech reporter, Dan Howley, is here with us. He's a cat lover as well. Dan, I thought this was a joke when I saw it trending on Twitter. Is it a real video game? Dan Howley: (00:36) It is a real video game. Here's my own little stray right here. This is Buddy, and he's a garbage cat. Speaker 3: (00:42) Hi, Buddy. Dan Howley: (00:44) He's going to take off now. Speaker 3: (00:45) He's a cutie. Dan Howley: (00:46) He is, yes. But Stray is a new game for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Steam. Basically, that means on PCs. And you really do play the game as a cat. You can do everything from knead or scratch on carpets, which Buddy does, and explore a cyber punk-inspired world, kind of dystopian cyber punk, interact with different robots, things along those lines. But you are not a super brain cat, or anything along those lines. You are a literal cat and there is an actual Meow button, a dedicated Meow button for this video game. And people are loving it. They say the story is amazing. Obviously, you can play as a cat. The internet is for cats. And so, that's really why this game is taking off. And it's great to see when it was first announced a while back, people weren't ecstatic. And now that it's actually out, people seem to be loving it. Speaker 3: (01:35) People are loving. It's one of the top trenders on Twitter. Rochelle, what do you think? Are you going to give it a go? Speaker 4: (01:42) I would absolutely give this a go. It's that sort of living vicariously, being a bit naughty, knocking things over. I love it. I think this is fantastic. Speaker 3: (01:49) Yeah. I don't know if I... Speaker 1: (01:50) No way. Speaker 3: (01:51) Yeah, I don't know. I'd watch maybe someone else play it, but we'll see. All right. Dan Howley. Speaker 1: (01:55) [inaudible 00:01:55]. Speaker 3: (01:55) Thank you so much for introducing us to Buddy, and thanks for hopping on at the end of the show.
