Speaker 1: (00:00) The man accused of trying to assault Republican gubernatorial candidate, Lee Zeldin, is now facing a federal charge. Today, 43 year old David Jakubonus was arrested and charged with assaulting a member of Congress, using a dangerous weapon. That charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. Yesterday, the suspect was arraigned on a separate state charge and released without bail. Jakubonus was seen trying to swing a sharp object at the congressman's neck during a rally near Rochester, Thursday. Zeldin, who was not hurt, was asked today about the new charges. Lee Zeldin: (00:34) If I was to put on a prosecutorial hat, which I'm not wearing right now, but if I was to put one on, I would offer that there are elements that I believe could get met for a more severe charge. Speaker 1: (00:45) The suspect is being held pending his next hearing on July 27th.
