The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame officially inducted its class of 2024 last night with a live show on Disney Plus that lasted more than five hours.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Our George Penacchio was backstage the whole time and has this report from Cleveland.
MUSIC (00:16):
If I could turn back time.
GEORGE PENACCHIO (00:17):
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame kicked off the evening with a celebration of Cher. She gave her only red carpet interview to us.
CHER (00:24):
I mean, look, rock and roll is, it is so inclusive. It is just inclusive. I mean, look, do I look like I should belong here now? But I am still working and I am still happy and I am still here.
GEORGE PENACCHIO (00:37):
Dua Lipa was honored to share the stage with the music icon.
DUA LIPA (00:41):
The trajectory of her career has been so inspiring and it is wonderful to have role models like that for artists like me.
GEORGE PENACCHIO (00:50):
Peter Frampton thought this day honoring him would never come.
PETER FRAMPTON (00:54):
It is overwhelming, because I had kind of crossed it off the list. I thought, wow, I am in my 70s now. They are not going to get me in now. But wow, they did.
MUSIC (01:06):
I do not believe where I have been.
PETER FRAMPTON (01:09):
Come on Cleveland.
GEORGE PENACCHIO (01:10):
Keith Urban joined his longtime friend for one of the night’s many collaborations.
KEITH URBAN (01:14):
It is what you feel with Pete. I mean, he says, Do you feel what I feel? I am, like, yeah, we feel what you feel, Pete.
GEORGE PENACCHIO (01:20):
The audience definitely felt the presence of honoree Ozzy Osborne, who kicked off a star-studded performance of his hit Crazy Train.
MUSIC (01:28):
All aboard.
GEORGE PENACCHIO (01:32):
There were performances celebrating honorees Kool and the Gang and Dave Matthews Band. Also honored A Tribe Called Quest, Jimmy Buffett, and Foreigner.
MUSIC (01:41):
I want you to show me.
RICK WILLS (01:43):
I think if you had have asked us back in the late ’70s when the band was formed, if we would be still relevant today, I do not think any of us would have believed it.
SAMMY HAGAR (01:54):
They wrote some of the greatest rock songs ever. They are up there with anybody.
GEORGE PENACCHIO (01:59):
Jennifer Hudson helped salute inductee Dionne Warwick.
JENNIFER HUDSON (02:03):
She is such an original. She set the tone. She raised the bar. Without her, artists, like myself, would not be here today.
DIONNE WARWICK (02:09):
I think it is wonderful that my art has been recognized finally, and they think I am worthy of it.
GEORGE PENACCHIO (02:16):
And you say finally.
DIONNE WARWICK (02:19):
Well, after 62 years, I think it is about time, is it not?
MUSIC (02:22):
We just want you all to have a good time. No more drama in your life.
GEORGE PENACCHIO (02:27):
And the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige brought down the house for her fans.
MARY J. BLIGE (02:33):
Thank you all for helping me the way you say I have helped you to heal, to get through hard times. I love you and thank you.
GEORGE PENACCHIO (02:41):
