How to Use Rev’s Different Captioning Integrations

Closed captions, subtitles, and CART captions are a great way to improve the content value of your videos. Captions increase the accessibility of your content and make it easier for people to view your videos in quiet environments. They also make your content discoverable to a wider audience through translated subtitles and improved SEO rankings.

The quality of your captions matters. Rev has integrations with the most popular video platforms in order to greatly simplify the process of ordering accurate and affordable captions.

Learn how to use Rev’s different caption integrations:

Youtube

To order Rev captions for your YouTube videos:

  1. Go to Rev.com, click on the Captions box, click Get Started.
  2. On the captions order page, click the YouTube button.
  3. You will be prompted to sign into your YouTube account. Sign in to give Rev access to your videos. This allows Rev to download your videos, and upload captions directly to your videos.
  4. Select the videos you would like to add captions to. Then click, Add selected to cart.
  5. You have the option to allow Rev to automatically upload your completed video back to YouTube. Check or uncheck this option.
  6. Complete your checkout process. You have the option to rush your order or add foreign subtitles.
  7. Click Checkout. You will be prompted to a new page, where you will click Place Order to complete the transaction.
  8. Once the order is complete, Rev will add captions directly to your YouTube videos.

Vimeo

To order Rev captions for your Vimeo videos:

  1. Go to Rev.com, click on the Captions box, and then click Get Started.
  2. On the captions order page, click the Vimeo button.
  3. You will be prompted to sign into your Vimeo account. Sign in to allow Rev to access your videos securely. This will allow Rev to download your videos and upload captions directly to the video.
  4. Select the videos you would like to have captioned. Then click Add Selected to Cart.
  5. You have the option to allow Rev to automatically upload captions to your Vimeo videos. Check or uncheck this option.
  6. Complete the checkout process. You have the option to rush your order or add foreign subtitles.
  7. Click Checkout. You will be prompted to a new page, where you will click Place Order to complete the transaction.
  8. Once the order is complete, Rev captions will be added to your Vimeo videos.

JW Player

  1. Make sure your Rev account has a source of payment connected. Go to your Rev account and click Billing Settings or Payment Settings. Here, you can either load prepaid credit with your credit card, or become an invoice customer.
  2. After you have payment set up, open your JW Player account.
  3. Click the settings icon in the top right corner, then select API Credentials.
  4. Click Show Credentials. 
  5. Copy the unique codes named API Key and Secret.
  6. Go to your Rev account and click Settings under the drop down menu.
  7. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Link New Account.
  8. Select JW Platform from the drop down menu. Enter the API Key and Secret you copied from JW Player.
  9. Under Auto Pull Mode, select whether you want Rev to pull all of your JW Player videos, or just videos tagged for Rev captioning.
  10. If you would like subtitles in a foreign language, select which languages you want under the Subtitles field underneath Auto Pull Mode.
  11. Click Link to link Rev to your JW Player account.
  12. If you chose to only pull videos with the Rev tag, go to your JW Player account.
  13. Go to your videos list and select the videos you want Rev to caption. Once they are selected, click Add Tags. 
  14. Add Rev tags from this list based on which languages you’d like. For example, ‘rev-en’ will order English-language captions.
  15. JW Player will automatically send orders to Rev once an hour. You can tell when Rev has received an order when it is tagged with ‘rev-en-placed.’
  16. When your order is complete, the tag will change to ‘rev-en-completed.’ The Rev captions will automatically be delivered to your video within JW Player. You can also view and edit caption files within your Rev account.

Brightcove

  1. Make sure your Rev account has a source of payment connected. Go to your Rev account and click Billing Settings or Payment Settings. Here, you can either load prepaid credit with your credit card, or become an invoice customer. Sign up to become an invoice customer at rev.com/invoicing-form.
  2. Go to your Rev settings page. Scroll down until you see Integration Settings. Then, click Link New Account.
  3. Select Brightcove as the account type under the drop down list.
  4. Go to your Brightcove account, click Admin in the top right corner, and select API Authentication from the drop down menu.
  5. Click Register New Application.
  6. Select at least one account for authorization.
  7. Add the permissions in the image below and click Save.
  8. Copy the Client ID and Client Secret codes that pop up on your screen. Go back to your Rev account, and underneath the New Account Type, paste your Client ID and Client Secret codes from Brightcove into Rev.
  9. Click Link to finish setting up the integration.
  10. In Brightcove, go to your videos list. Select the videos you want to send to Rev.
  11. Click edit on the video information and click on Tags.
  12. Add Rev tags from this list based on which languages you’d like. For example, ‘rev-en’ will order English-language captions. If you want to rush your order, include the tag ‘rev-rush.’ Rush orders cannot be applied to videos with foreign language subtitles.
  13. Brightcove will automatically send orders to Rev once an hour. You can tell when Rev has received an order when it is tagged with ‘rev-en-placed.’
  14. When your order is complete, the tag will change to ‘rev-en-completed.’ The Rev captions will automatically be delivered to your video within Brightcove. You can also view and edit caption files within your Rev account.

Zoom

  1. Go to rev.com/zoom-live-captions
  2. Click Start Free Trial. Sign in or sign up for a free Rev account to continue.
  3. On the Zoom Live Captions page, click on the Authorize in Zoom button on the top right corner.
  4. Sign into a Zoom admin account to complete the authorization. Once authorized, the button in the top right corner will now say Start Your Free Trial. Click this button to begin your free trial.
  5. When prompted, select how many active Zoom host users you’ll need for your organization.
  6. Enter your payment information.
  7. Then click Subscribe. 
  8. Once this is complete, you can add your Zoom host users via email address under the Manage Users section.
  9. Each Zoom host user will need to update their settings to enable live captions. To do this, open your Zoom account on a web browser and go to Meeting Settings. Then, go to In Meeting (Advanced). Here, turn on Closed Captioning and Allow live streaming meetings. Under Allow live streaming meetings, click Custom Live Streaming Service and click Save.
  10. On a new Zoom meeting, you will see Live on Rev Live Captions in the top left corner of the screen. A closed captions button will appear on the bottom menu. To show closed captions on your screen, each attendee will need to click on the up arrow next to the closed captions button, then click Show Subtitle.

Yuja

  1. Make sure your Rev account has a source of payment connected. Go to your Rev account and click Billing Settings or Payment Settings. Here, you can either load prepaid credit with your credit card, or become an invoice customer. Sign up to become an invoice customer at rev.com/invoicing-form.
  2. Open your Rev account. Go to Settings. Go to API User Key and click Generate.’ Copy and save the key somewhere safe for later use.
  3. To link your Rev and Yuja accounts, you must be a Yuja administrator.
  4. Click on the main menu in the top right corner, and click on Admin Panel in the drop down menu.
  5. Click integrations on the panel on the left hand side of the screen.
  6. Select Captioning – Rev Media from the top drop down menu. Enter your Rev User API Key when prompted. Add any name to the Rev Caption Provider Name box, and click Save in the upper right corner. Your Yuja and Rev accounts are now linked.
  7. From Yuja’s main menu, access the media library.
  8. Choose the video you want to caption, and click More… from the video options.
  9. Once the menu pops up, click on the Accessibility tab on the left. Then click the Human Caption option.
  10. A popup will ask whether you want to override the machine caption file already associated with your video. Select Yes.
  11. Click Send Request to confirm the captions will be sent to Rev. Under Service Name, type ‘Rev’ or a reference name for your Rev account.
  12. Paste your Rev API Key into the Private Key field. Click Enable this Provider under Service Options and then click Save.

Warpwire

  1. Make sure your Rev account has a source of payment connected. Go to your Rev account and click ‘Billing Settings’ or ‘Payment Settings.’ Here, you can either load prepaid credit with your credit card, or become an invoice customer. Sign up to become an invoice customer at rev.com/invoicing-form.
  2. Go to Rev.com, sign into your account and click on Settings from the drop down menu on the top right corner.
  3. Find API User Key and click Generate or Regenerate. Save your API Key somewhere safe for later use.
  4. Go to Warpwire, click Admin Tool from the Warpwire Support drop down menu. Then select Closed Caption Requests from the drop down menu in the upper left corner of the page.
  5. Then, click Add Profile. Give your profile a name, and then select Rev under the Provider drop down menu. Enter your email address as the Client API Key and then paste your API Key from Rev into the User API Key field. Click Save to complete the integration.
  6. To order captions, go to your Warpwire Media Library. Hover over the video you want to have captioned and click the bubble button on the lower right corner. Select Settings.
  7. A modal will pop up, click  +Add on the Captions line near the bottom. When prompted, click Request Captions. Then click ‘Create’. 
  8. Your video will then be automatically sent to Rev for captioning.

Panopto

  1. Make sure your Rev account has a source of payment connected. Go to your Rev account and click Billing Settings or Payment Settings. Here, you can either load prepaid credit with your credit card, or become an invoice customer. Sign up to become an invoice customer at rev.com/invoicing-form.
  2. Go to Rev.com, sign into your account and click on Settings from the drop down menu on the top right corner.
  3. Find API User Key and click Generate or Regenerate. Save your API Key somewhere safe for later use.
  4. Open your admin Panopto account. Go to System and then click on Caption Services’. On the Caption Services page, select New.
  5. In the Provider and SLA drop down menu, select Rev.
  6. You can assign permissions to users in your account so they can access Rev captions. Click on System in the bottom left corner. Click Users. Hover over the user’s name you want to give permissions, and click Info. Scroll down to System Roles and check the box for Caption Requester. Then click Update roles.
  7. To submit a video for captioning, go to your sessions folder. Click the Settings icon in the top bar of any session. Select the Captions tab and then click Order.
  8. Rev captions will be automatically delivered to the video in your Panopto account. You can also view and edit the caption files in your Rev account.

Kaltura

  1. Make sure your Rev account has a source of payment connected. Go to your Rev account and click Billing Settings or Payment Settings. Here, you can either load prepaid credit with your credit card, or become an invoice customer. Sign up to become an invoice customer at rev.com/invoicing-form.
  2. Open your Kaltura account and go to Settings. From here, click Integration. Copy all of your account information under Account Info.
  3. Go back to Rev.com and click on Settings. Scroll down until you see Integration Settings and then click Link New Account.
  4. Select Kaltura from the Type drop down menu. Then, enter the integration information you previously selected from your Kaltura account (in step 2). Click Link to complete the integration.
  5. To order captions, open your management console on Kaltura. Go to the Content tab. Then click the Categories tag.
  6. Once on the categories page, click the green button in the top left corner that is labeled Add Category. Name the new category Rev. You can optionally add it to an existing parent category.
  7. Go back to the Content tab. Then, on the Entries tab, select a video you’d like to have captioned. Type Rev in the categories and click on Rev in the drop down menu. Then click Save in the upper right hand corner.
  8. Kaltura will send your video to captioned by Rev. Once Rev has received your order, you will see ‘Rev-Captioning’ as the new subcategory for your video. Once the order is complete, the subcategory will change to ‘Rev-Completed’.

Ensemble Video

  1. Make sure your Rev account has a source of payment connected. Go to your Rev account and click Billing Settings or Payment Settings. Here, you can either load prepaid credit with your credit card, or become an invoice customer. Sign up to become an invoice customer at rev.com/invoicing-form.
  2. Go to your Rev settings page. Scroll down until you see Integration Settings. Then, click Link New Account.
  3. Select Ensemble as the account Type. Enter the username and password that you use to log in to your Ensemble account. Make sure the school you are associated with appears in the Web Application URL box.
  4. Go back to the Rev.com homepage, click on Captions and then click Get Started.

  6. Complete the checkout process. You have the option to rush your order or add foreign subtitles.

  1. Go to rev.com/zoom-live-captions
  2. Click Start Free Trial. Sign in or sign up for a free Rev account to continue.
  3. On the Zoom Live Captions page, click on the Authorize in Zoom button on the top right corner.
  4. Sign into a Zoom admin account to complete the authorization. Once authorized, the button in the top right corner will now say Start Your Free Trial. Click this button to begin your free trial.

  4. Select Kaltura from the Type drop down menu. Then, enter the integration information you previously selected from your Kaltura account (in step 2). Click Link to complete the integration.
  5. To order captions, open your management console on Kaltura. Go to the Content tab. Then click the Categories tag.
  6. Once on the categories page, click the green button in the top left corner that is labeled Add Category. Name the new category Rev. You can optionally add it to an existing parent category.
  7. Go back to the Content tab. Then, on the Entries tab, select a video you’d like to have captioned. Type Rev in the categories and click on Rev in the drop down menu. Then click Save in the upper right hand corner.
